My Story
If you're reading this, there's a good chance you—or someone you love—is struggling.
If that's you, I want you to know something before you read another word.
You're not alone.
My name is JD Grillo, and this isn't just the story of how I started a company. It's the
story of how I got my life back.
I've spent more than thirty years working construction as a union electrician. I've been
blessed to raise two incredible children, built a career I'm proud of, and today I try to
help people who are struggling because I know what it feels like to believe you're
alone.
But there was a time when none of that seemed possible.
One night, I found myself alone in my living room, pacing, looking up at the ceiling,
talking to myself.
That night, I had done more drugs and alcohol than ever before.
Not because I was trying to get higher.
I was trying to stay numb.
For years, every time life caught up with me, I reached for something to avoid feeling
it. Eventually, the amount that used to numb me stopped working, so I took more—not
to get higher, but to keep running from the truth.
Then I heard myself say something I'll never forget.
“No matter how much I do... it doesn't work anymore.”
A few seconds later came another realization.
“And I can't stop.”
For the first time in my life, I realized I wasn't in control anymore.
Not long afterward, I finally answered a phone that had been ringing for days. I had
isolated myself from everyone. It was my mother. She told me there was a rehab in
Florida near where she lived that could take me in.
Years later, she reminded me my response was simply:
“I guess I'll go.”
Looking back, it's hard to believe how tightly I was still holding on to a life that was
already falling apart.
Detox was one of the hardest experiences of my life. I barely slept. My body ached. My
legs wouldn't stop moving. Every morning, the other clients walked with me to the
beach to watch the sunrise.
I went every day.
I didn't just pray.
I begged.
On the eleventh morning, something happened that changed my life forever. I won't
try to explain it. I only know what it meant to me.
I still remember my very first thought.
“What I've been waiting so long for... why didn't I just stop?”
For years, I had built recovery into something so terrifying that I couldn't imagine life
on the other side.
That morning, for the first time, I believed there actually was another side.
Recovery didn't change my life overnight.
It changed it one decision at a time.
One morning, not long after getting sober, I was standing on a subway platform with
my tool bag on my way to work. Without thinking, I checked my pockets for pills.
Then it hit me.
I didn't have anything.
And I didn't need anything.
I wasn't going to get sick.
I was sober.
That simple moment felt like freedom.
One of the greatest gifts recovery gave me was the chance to be present for my
children.
I had never played a sport in my life, yet somehow I became the softball dad, standing
beside my daughter at practices and games while feeling completely out of place.
Later, I found myself taking my son to boxing and MMA classes, simply learning how to
be there for him too.
At first, it all felt uncomfortable.
Then, little by little, it became natural.
Looking back, my children probably have no idea how much they helped me. While I
was trying to raise them, they were helping raise me too.
Every ordinary moment helped shape me into a better father, a better friend, a better
employee, and ultimately, a better man.
Then, seventeen years later, I relapsed.
I was shocked. I was disappointed. I couldn't believe I had found myself back there.
It was one of the most humbling experiences of my life.
But it also reminded me how frightening those first days can be.
As I fought my way back, I returned to researching vitamins, nutrients, and ingredients that could support the mind and body through detox and early recovery.
That's when RE-STOHRWRKS was born.
I didn't create REBUILD and BALANCE because I believed they were magic pills.
I created them because I remembered exactly what those early days felt like, and I
wanted to build the nutritional support I wish I'd had.
These aren't cures.
They aren't treatments.
They're wellness-support formulas created by someone who's lived the journey and
never forgot those first days.
Recovery gave me back my career.
It gave me back my family.
It gave me back the chance to become the father my children deserved.
Most of all...
It gave me the chance to become the man I always wanted to be.
If our paths ever cross, I probably won't ask if you've tried RE-STOHRWRKS.
I'll ask you something much more important.
“How are you doing?”
And if you tell me you're sober today...
I'm going to tell you I'm proud of you.
Supplements or not.
You're not alone.
